Patrick Sinyembo

As programme manager, Patrick oversees an Impact Facility project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This is a significant multi-stakeholder partnership that brings together Fairphone and Chinese cobalt refiner Huayou Cobalt Co. and aims to improve working conditions, boost alternative livelihood opportunities and tackle the root causes of child labour in local cobalt mines.

Patrick’s role is to coordinate these development goals with existing local initiatives, strategically aligning and amalgamating all resources while avoiding duplication of effort. He serves as the mediator between project implementers and the local mining community, a multitasking role that demands diplomacy and innovative thinking as well as attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines.

Thanks to his previous experience in a supervisory capacity with leading mining companies and in online intelligence identification, security systems is trained in many aspects of mine site security, human rights, he worked with HCR in Lubumbashi in the programme of empowerment of refugees in Lubumbashi and safety management, Patrick brings technological expertise as well as excellent management skills to his role with the Impact Facility.

An effective project manager and a skilled communicator, Patrick is fluent in English, French, Swahili and Lingala. He holds a diploma in biochemistry from Ukweli Institute and a diploma in administrative and political science from Unilu extension of Kolwezi.
