Stronger Together: Mining Community Voices at MI26

An open call for community representatives to speak at Africa’s largest mining event

The Impact Facility and Hyve, organisers of the annual Investing in African Mining Indaba Conference, are partnering once again to bring the voices of mining-affected communities to the global stage at Mining Indaba 2026 (MI26).

As part of next year’s theme, “Stronger Together: Progress Through Partnership,” we are launching a public call for video submissions from individuals who live in or work closely with mining communities across Africa. We want to hear your perspective on the opportunities, challenges, and changes needed to ensure mining brings lasting benefits to local people.

Whether you’re an artisanal miner, Indigenous leader, community representative, or activist, this is your chance to help shape the future of mining — and be heard by decision-makers, investors, and policy leaders from around the world.

What We’re Looking For

We invite short, original video submissions (3–5 minutes) reflecting on the MI26 theme, “Stronger Together: Progress Through Partnership,” and how it relates to your lived experience. Your video might highlight:

  • Challenges your community faces as a result of mining
  • Opportunities for more equitable or inclusive engagement
  • Stories of resilience, innovation, or collaboration
  • Ideas for how governments, companies, and communities can work together more effectively

Submissions will be accepted in English or French.

What’s on Offer?

All eligible submissions will be featured at or around Mining Indaba 2026 — through exhibits, digital displays, or the event’s visibility campaign. In addition, up to 10 individuals will be selected to attend MI26 in person, with:

  • Flights, accommodation, food & board fully covered
  • A free delegate pass
  • Potential opportunities to speak on official panels or workshops

Selections will be made by a jury composed of civil society leaders and the inaugural MI25 community voices competition winners.

Please note: While we aim to support as many as possible, only a limited number of sponsorships are available. Others may still be offered a free delegate pass but are expected to self-finance their travel and lodging.

How to Apply

To apply, submit your video along with a short form capturing your background, community affiliation, and motivation for attending. You will be asked to confirm that:

– You are over 18

– You hold full rights to your video content

– You are submitting on behalf of yourself or with permission from your organization

– You are available to travel to South Africa in February 2026 if selected

Deadline for submissions: Sunday, 29 September 2025 at 23:59 GMT
