Paving the Way for Ethical Gold: The Rise of Responsible Gold Credits!

ASM Gold Health and Safety 13 Jun , 2025

The Impact facility Family is thrilled to share groundbreaking news from the world of sustainable sourcing! The Responsible Gold Credits (RGC) program, a pioneering initiative akin to renewable energy credits, is revolutionizing the gold industry. RGCs serve as verifiable proof that a specific amount of gold has been produced in adherence to stringent Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) benchmarks, guaranteeing its ethical origins.

The validation of RGCs is robust, involving a comprehensive traceability mechanism that meticulously monitors the Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining (ASGM) supply chain from mining to off-take. This continuous monitoring also ensures ongoing mine improvements aligned with ESG standards. For RGC off-takers, these credits provide a powerful tool to offset their gold footprint, knowing their purchase directly supports responsible practices.

The impact of RGCs on the ASGM industry is profound. Priced at a premium, funds generated from RGC purchases are channeled directly back into ASGM communities, fostering significant improvements. This includes increased wages, enhanced health and safety, vital environmental projects, and investment in efficient technologies.

This transformative program is a collaborative effort by esteemed partners: Solidaridad, The Impact Facility, Fairphone, and Bruna the Label. We’re proud to announce Fairphone, BRUNA the label, and Shiftphone as our inaugural RGC off-takers, each receiving a certificate recognizing their commitment.

The successful pilot project in Tanzania’s Nsangano mine is a testament to the program’s efficacy. Since its launch in Q1 2025, 2.5 kg of Gold Credits have been sold, generating over $12,776 in revenue. Premium funds have already been allocated for essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and radio communication systems for miners, delivered in May 2025.
